ipxe/boot.php hanging on capture
-
Did a svn up to rev 5955. After I recovered from realizing it had deleted my images with no backup…I am back at it trying to upload a image, but getting stuck at fog/service/ipxe/boot.php on the loading screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
Problem seems to be resolved.
I deleted the storage node that was showing up in apache error log. Not sure why FOG reverted to a storage node that was not listed as master, but it did.
After deleting, I have uploaded an image.
Words of wisdom from an idiot…When SVN up-ing, Make sure that you don’t delete your images, evidently there is a setting to delete images and I missed it. It is a bad thing to delete them. Worse than that…I did not have a backup of the images.
Happy Fogging.@Wayne-Workman @Quazz Thanks for your support you guys are great to have around.
-
Neither FOG nor the update deleted your images - I can guarantee you this.
Did you change the IP address of the fog server?
-
no…did not I am trying to upload another image and all seems fine until I get to the ipxe/boot.php line…it hangs and doesn’t do anything for about 2 minutes or so…and restarts the process.
Fedora 22. The only thing that may have deleted my images was that I did a svn up from a different location other than the original location. I still have a hard time believing that would make the images delete, but that is over and now, I just want to get back to work and I can’t with the stalling at ipxe/boot.php.
No changes were made other than the svn up. -
@ftgjason is you image store on a nas or mounted from a different volume? There is 0 code deleting images in the installer. There is 1 method to delete files through the GUI and it means you made the selection. It sounds, to me, like the original /images was mounted from another device, and for one reason or another the other device is no longer mounted.

For the restart issue this is probably because the init is failing to get DHCP, as if this failed we can’t do anything with the system anyway. What happens if you place a dummy switch between the system and the main switch?
-
@Tom-Elliott I will try to use a different switch, but I currently have the switch in my office directly connected to the machine I am trying to upload and the FOG server. My DHCP box is in another building.
-
@ftgjason is it a dumb switch or managed?
-
@Tom-Elliott managed
-
@ftgjason and that managed switch is setup for spanning tree? If so is port fast, or rapid STP also enabled?
-
@Tom-Elliott no clue
-
@ftgjason is this something that has changed from the earlier versions? The switches all worked perfectly before the svn up
-
@ftgjason there’s been one change to the inits which was to help with xp and vista older style images and one change to the kernels to add support for the bnx2 firmware on some server boxes. No changes have been made to the inits in regards to network load up.
-
@Tom-Elliott so my switches are set to RSTP by default. Is there something else I should be seeing?
-
@ftgjason I added a dumb switch which is connected to the fog client machine that I wish to upload/capture. Nothing is different with the addition of the dumb switch.
-
Can you get a screen shot or video of the issue?
-
-
@ftgjason what’s in the Apache error logs?

@ftgjason on the fog server at CLI, what is the output of these two commands?
ip addr show
and
cat /tftpboot/default.ipxe
