yep that’s the log. and yea the password is set to never expire. And for kicks and giggles we would up the permissions on the account but that didn’t do anything either.

So its not changing the hostname or joining the domain? Does the fog service on the client have the correct ip or hostname for your fog server?

The computer you created the image from, was it joined to the domain when you ran fogprep and pulled the image to the fog server? Also the computers you are trying to image, were they on the domain before you imaged them with windows 7 or are they brand new computers?

They aren’t brand new but had wiped disks, also the computer that i uploaded it from was not on the domain when i pulled the image from it.

Ok. Even though you are wiping the computers make sure they have been deleted out of active directory before FOG tries to join them to the domain otherwise it won’t be able to join them.

We tried that and didn’t have any luck but i believe that it was a combination of issues one being that we had to delete out of active directory, the other being that i completely spaced that you have to update the config.ini in the fogcrypt folder with your passkey in order to encrypt it. which is why we were getting padding invalid errors after deleting from active directory then trying to join again. but it works now!

A side note: if you manage your computers into separate OU’s or add them to groups; If you need to reimage a machine that was in active directory already and you want it to remain in the same OU and same groups, just reset the computer account instead of deleting it. That should allow the FOG client to rejoin the computer to the domain with the same name, in the same OU, and in the same groups.

I’m also having trouble getting a machine to join the domain. I’m very new to FOG so I could be missing something obvious. Maybe someone can help?

Questions:

1. Under ‘Other Information -> FOG Settings’, is that supposed to be a Global way to join all machines to the domain? If so where do I enter the credentials to use? The information in the flyovers to the side of the fields seems to be asking for the default user to create on the newly imaged machine rather than Domain Admin credentials.

2. Under ‘Host Management > Active Directory’ I read the OU should be entered in LDAP format. So that would be something like this:? OU=Computers,OU=SupportSpace Customer Support,OU=Director Service Operations,OU=CSO,OU=SupportSpace,DC=SupportSpace,DC=local

1. I don’t understand the comment above about modifying the config.ini file in the fogcrypt folder with your passkey in order to encrypt it. I didn’t see this in the wiki.

Any and all help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1.) Under the Other information -> Fog Settings -> Active Directory defaults. That’s where you enter your credentials so that when you image a host and select join domain after imaging those boxes will be pre-filled with your information.

2.) Honestly I would leave the Organizational Unit blank. It’s not required to join the Domain.

3.) In the FOGCrypt Folder you will see an etc folder, in that will be a Config.ini file if you open that with notepad and only notepad. you will see the line that says passkey then it has an equal symbol with the phrase FOG-OpenSource-Imaging
if you change that line to whatever you want your passkey to be and then Use the Command prompt to CD over to the FOGCrpyt Folder and run the fogcrypt.exe file it will encrypt the passkey you enter with the phrase you put into the config.ini file
I think the exact Command is FOGCrypt.exe (yourpassword) > (newpass.txt) Change whats int the parenthesis to what fits you and it will create a .txt file in the fog crypt directory with the encrypted passkey.

Then only thing that tutorial doesn’t tell you is to change the passkey in the config.ini Folder

Hi All,

I am very new to FOG.

I have installed Windows 7 in a New Machine with all the software in need. I have uploaded the image in Fog server. I just want to know what are the steps i need to follow to make the image which adds the client computer in domain automatically.

Can anyone explain me the steps please.

Thanks in advance…

Vignesh R,

I'm having the same issues you are (or were) in regards to Auto joining the domain. I was wondering if you ever got a resolution to your problem? I can offer you what little knowledge I have, but I warn you that I have had NO success in getting the computers to auto join the domain.

Megabyte, go ahead and start your own thread and post your question including what version of windows and FOG you are using. I’ll be happy to help you get it working with AD if I can.
