Using syslinux to install XP over pxe?
-
Does anyone have any guides for just simply installing XP over PXE? Or can XP installed in the normal fashion without loading the entire ISO into memory when pxe booting? I googled around but I can’t find exactly what I’m after in this situation. This would be handy for when my images aren’t working correctly or when working on low memory systems.

There’s a couple threads on booting from ISO’s …here’s two:

http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/how-to-modify-the-pxe-boot-menu-to-allow-the-booting-of-iso-files.154/I’ve read some ISO’s don’t play nice with this but, it’s relatively painless to give it a try. Remember that when using memdisk there has to be enough memory to load the whole ISO.

You can’t install XP over PXE in the traditional sense of booting off the .iso This is due to the way memdisk / ramdisk.sys and the legacy microsoft product’s don’t play nice with each other. Same can be said for BartPE and memdisk (based off of server 2003). You can’t PXE boot bartpe either (without some crazy fan-gangling)
