Boot Menu: rEFInd Initializes Too Quickly
-
Hey,
When we start the boot menu and reach the main “boot” screen, if we don’t select anything within 3-5 seconds, it automatically proceeds to the rEFInd initializing screen with a blue bar.
Is there a way to disable this, or is it a crucial feature? Right now, we have to switch tabs very quickly to make a selection, so having an option to disable this would be really helpful.
-
And when we press “Boot from Hard Disk,” it returns to the rEFInd screen instead of booting from the hard disk. It should boot directly from the hard disk, right?

@ReinierG This is a setting of the exit type for the host.
There’s 2 places this can be defined. The first place is global should should be configured under FOG Settings -> Exit Type (I cannot remember if it’s specifically under EFI Exit, but I think it is)
The 2nd place is individually to each host.
I would suggest looking at the host settings and see what it’s efi exit type is configured for. It sounds like it’s configured as rEFInd exit, if you set to EXIT does this fix the issue you’re seeing?

Hey @Tom-Elliott
Thanks for the quick response! I’ve updated the Boot Exit settings:‘Exit to hard drive type’ to EXIT
‘Exit to hard drive type (EFI)’ to EXIT
Now, the boot-to-disk function works fine, which is already amazing thanks! However, we’re still facing the issue where, after 3-5 seconds, it automatically exits. What else can we try to keep it in the main boot menu?
-
@ReinierG What do you mean “it automatically exits”?
What does? Sorry just trying to understand what issue you’re having.
Are you saying there’s no screen for you to perform any action?
If that’s the case (and I’m only guessing) there is a way to extend the timeout. Again, I don’t have my actual option available but It would fall under FOG Settings -> Pxe Menu Timeout or something like that? I believe the default is 3 seconds.
I’d recommend updating this to 5, then increment it slowly (1 second at a time) so as not to make all your systmes seemingly suddenly slow.

Pxe Menu Timeout
Hey @Tom-Elliott ,
No, the issue is not that we don’t see a menu. When we start netboot and the main FOG menu opens (where we can deploy an image and access other options), it automatically exits after 3-5 seconds and proceeds to rEFInd, which is not correct.

I allready see the setting, can i just set the timeout as high as i want without issue’s?
