RE: Windows wont boot with network cable plugged in
Hey Guys,
Sorry I was out of the office all day yesterday. It is the same issue as my other post, but I figured that I would post it here because it seems like more of a windows problem.
To answer your question; the computer wont boot at all with the network cable plugged in. During oobe/after oobe/ wayyyyy after oobe. It just starts to load then i hear the little Windows Jingle and it freezes. Then I have to unplug and reboot with the cable out to get it to boot.
The thing that kills me is that I used the exact same VM that worked perfect when uploading and deploying with partimage on .32,but not partclone on 1.1.2. When that didn’t work I figured that I broke something so I rebuilt a whole new VM and uploaded it with partclone and exact same thing happened with a brand new unmolested image.

No go on the Delayed start of the fog service. still hangs

RE: Image Troubles!
I believe so. Honestly I think i just double clicked and took the defaults, typed in the server IP and finished. I didn’t right click it and run as administrator or anything

Windows wont boot with network cable plugged in
After imaging with FOG 1.1.2 when windows starts its first boot it will get to the point where it says system is updating registry and then just hangs. However if I unplug the network at that point and reboot it. it boots fine. Is there an issue with the kernel or something like that? Or is this a known issue?
FOG 1.1.2
Windows 7
Test Computer: Lenovo L512 (current) same on other models -
RE: Image Troubles!
Well I narrowed it down to having the network cable plugged in, if I let the computer boot without network cable it boots fine. But thats a major pain because then i have to plug it back in and restart the fog service then it restarts and I have to unplug it again for the domain join part…

RE: Image Troubles!
I wonder if its more of a problem with VMware then it is windows or fog?

RE: Image Troubles!
When I did the clean install I took the defaults. I just verified that they both do have the 100mb partition. and when it uploads I do see that go and is compressed to 26.something mb in the server.

Windows 7 Images, Image settings set to win7, single disk NTFS (resizeable), I Let it sit over night and it just sits at the pulsing logo screen.

Image Troubles!
Did a clean install up to 1.1.2 and ever since I haven’t be able to deploy an image. I can create and upload just fine. however when I download it after it finishes imaging and windows starts to boot up it just hangs on the windows logo. before it goes through the start up is installing devices and services stuff.
Using the same exact process as when i did my images on .32 I even used the same VM to upload it.
I’m not sure if this is a problem with windows or Fog. but I’m leaning toward fog because I built a whole new VM thinking that I broke the old one and it happened with the new one as well. -
RE: Storage Node quirk
Well that’s weird… I don’t have a .fogsettings file, none the less I changed the fog account password and now my images are being replicated successfully. Thanks again for your help!

Storage Node quirk
When I ran the install and set up as a storage server the install went great and then you have to have the password that you put into the master server in order for them to talk. However… mine shows as blank!
Setup complete!
You still need to setup this node in the fog management
portal. You will need the username and password listed
below.Management Server URL:
http://10.1.0.134/fogYou will need this, write this down!
Username:
Password:Script done, file is /var/log/foginstall.log
Does anyone know where I might find this password or can i just edit the mysql password to something that I know? -
RE: Image upload almost working
All is Well in the world of Imaging! doing a reinstall worked, also fixed my html coding problem on the hosts page! (just thought that was a bug)

RE: Image upload almost working
seems easy enough, however will that wipe my host database?

RE: Image upload almost working
Just tried changing the permissions on the whole /images folder, no change. It’s almost like everything works up to the point where it is supposed to restore the MBR and everything

Image upload almost working
Been a while!
I just upgraded to 1.1.2 and I can’t seem to upload any images. Looks like it goes through the upload process nicely but then right after the last partition it says task completed successfully and then just blinks one star on a line and works its way down the page. I think It may have something to do with the permissions for the my SQL. I left the password blank on install like the instruction say to. My user is not “FOG” lol.
I’m just kind of stuck, I know that the image goes into the dev folder then is moved and renamed into the images folder after. doesn’t look like its doing that.

RE: Joining Domain Problems with windows 7
1.) Under the Other information -> Fog Settings -> Active Directory defaults. That’s where you enter your credentials so that when you image a host and select join domain after imaging those boxes will be pre-filled with your information.
2.) Honestly I would leave the Organizational Unit blank. It’s not required to join the Domain.
3.) In the FOGCrypt Folder you will see an etc folder, in that will be a Config.ini file if you open that with notepad and only notepad. you will see the line that says passkey then it has an equal symbol with the phrase FOG-OpenSource-Imaging
if you change that line to whatever you want your passkey to be and then Use the Command prompt to CD over to the FOGCrpyt Folder and run the fogcrypt.exe file it will encrypt the passkey you enter with the phrase you put into the config.ini file
I think the exact Command is FOGCrypt.exe (yourpassword) > (newpass.txt) Change whats int the parenthesis to what fits you and it will create a .txt file in the fog crypt directory with the encrypted passkey.http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/FOGCrypt
Then only thing that tutorial doesn’t tell you is to change the passkey in the config.ini Folder

RE: Unable to deploy image to hosts
After you created an image from within the fog web UI did you associate a machine with that image and then upload the image from that machine?
-
RE: Joining Domain Problems with windows 7
We tried that and didn’t have any luck but i believe that it was a combination of issues one being that we had to delete out of active directory, the other being that i completely spaced that you have to update the config.ini in the fogcrypt folder with your passkey in order to encrypt it. which is why we were getting padding invalid errors after deleting from active directory then trying to join again. but it works now!
