What else are you doing on this Linux VM? Just FOG? What’s all the things that are installed? What versions?

RE: Can't login to management after saving FOG settings
Yeah, I came across that and a few others like it after Tom made some suggestions about the session files. If that’s what the problem is then it seems like it has to be a FOG problem since phpMyadmin is writing them OK.
I’ve got another new FOG install up and running on Ubuntu 12.04 in a VM. This is the third install in the past two weeks with the first two ending in me being locked out of the web interface. Don’t know what else to try if this one locks me out again.
Until it gets solved, snapshots.
There must be a way to fix it.

RE: Web GUI, Fog login problem
and how would you expect your systems to communicate with your fog server when (nearly) all of your systems have public IP addresses?
Our district runs under just a hand-full of public IP addresses. The router handles NAT. Our clients have internally issued private IP addresses, and our FOG server has a static private IP address. They communicate fine.
I suppose you were saying that the systems you look after all have public IPs ? Now that’s interesting…

RE: Let's make scripts!
I quite like the idea but I am wondering if it’s worth the effort to create those scripts?! Most problems are very special and some involve switch configurations, DHCP settings on external (windows) servers and possibly other clients are needed to check boot menu via HTTP or NFS mounts.
But feel free to start scripting and we’ll jump in as things get rolling. What do you think?!
It’s a good opportunity to learn something about Linux scripting.
The first one will be on Fedora 21.
I’m going to rely heavily on the forum to figure out all the commands that need ran.

RE: Host Unregistered
Also, this thread may help:
http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/multiple-nic-hosts.12511/#post-42998
it’s about hosts with multiple NICs.
-
RE: Host Unregistered
This probably isn’t ideal or pretty but I think it’ll work…
Manually create TWO hosts in the Web GUI… one for each MAC address. Assign your image and whatever other settings you need for BOTH of those MAC addresses. Try to image using one of those hosts at a time, see what happens. make note of which one works, don’t delete the other.
Another more experienced user might fly in and save the day with some brilliant schnazz so if you want to wait on it for a better answer, that’s cool too.

Let's make scripts!
I would like to suggest making troubleshooting scripts for every major flavor of Linux, for FOG troubleshooting.
The scripts should test every relevant service, maybe run basic diagnostics on those services… The scripts could even pull data from configuration files, and definitely the FOG install log.
All the scripts should put all output into a single text file, for FOG users to post here.
This should expedite trouble shooting, because we can say, Here, run this script, give us the output (or they themselves use it as a troubleshooting tool).
We should make a WiKi section just for these.
EDIT
This project has been converted into a SourceForge project.
Here is how you can get it:
svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/fog-troubleshoot-script/svn/ /svn/fog-troubleshoot-script
Here’s a link to the project: https://sourceforge.net/projects/fog-troubleshoot-script/
Many many thanks to everyone that was involved with improving this script. Hopefully people will continue to collaborate and help to improve this FOG side project. If you would like commit access, just ask me or @Tom-Elliott

RE: Host Unregistered
This host is a PC? If so, open a command prompt.
You can get a list of all MAC addresses using
getmac
You can also right click on the adapter using the GUI, and go to status to see the MAC address.
Write that MAC down.
See if it’s in the FOG database already.
Does this computer have more than one NIC ?

RE: Fatal Error: Failed to Mount File System
Make sure that the NFS server is running. Please post any errors it gives.
sudo service nfs-kernel-server status
also try restarting with

sudo service nfs-kernel-server restart

Check that your /etc/exports is set correctly, maybe post what’s in there.
Can you post your FOG install log? It’s right here: /var/log/foginstall.log

RE: Limiting program instances or processes, Unrealted to FOG, but still imaging Related
Agreed, but some administrations see that using the shot gun approach to issues is the best. The only way for this approach to work is to limit the technology itself. So Jaymes is making the best out of his situation.
Students pop the keys off of keyboards here all the time. We all know its a classroom management issue but no one does anything, so I’m stuck fixing keys all the time. I do have to hand it to them they did have enough time to spell out “F*** YOU” on the finger placement keys. (Yes they stole the second “U” off another keyboard.) Just something I have to deal with I guess.
One time, I found a keyboard with all the keys arranged in alphabetical order. You know that took a while… Again, a classroom management problem. How can a teacher not notice a kid plucking keys off all hour long? Only if they aren’t being active in the computer lab, only if they aren’t walking around and keeping an eye on things.

RE: Limiting program instances or processes, Unrealted to FOG, but still imaging Related
Here I am again, with another one of those OFF THE WALL ideas. I will explain my situation again so incase someone who is not familiar with my set up understands what I am trying to accomplish.
Platform:
Windows 7 32 bitEnd goal:
What I want to do, is limit the amount of times a program can be opened, so it can only be opened once and can not be opened until your current window is closed. Particularly, I am aiming to lock down Chrome. Chrome has this weird habit of letting you use an extension to limit the amount of tabs a browsing session can have, but then you can open 20 different chrome windows and circumvent the tab limitation (each window will be locked to 3 tabs but I want only 3 tabs EVER and only one window EVER.)Is there a way to limit a program process to run only a limited number of times?
The reason:
I work k-12 and my high school students that have an online learning alternative have found a way to circumvent the system by using a browser session to log into the course material and use another browser session to complete the test material while using the course material to answer the questions.I used FireFox and it worked well, to limit the number of windows open to only 1 and I limit them to 3 tabs. This works except the service I use doesn’t support FireFox completely, some of the material doesn’t display properly or entirely and the “continue” or “next” button seems to be missing in the material. Granted I have reached out to the company many times to complain of the issues, but they only seem to contact me back after Firefox puts out an update, and they want me to update firefox to see if the issue is still there… Uhh yeah, if you didn’t fix it, it still exists! They also have no intentions of only allowing a single sign on instance to the material.
So inventive ideas are welcome!
Current Measures:
I have already locked down Internet explorer by replacing it with a lock down browser, but this prevents the users from being able to access the calculator, or the music app, or the word processor, it also takes some special steps to stop the process, we only use this in the worse case scenarios where we really can’t keep the student on task.I have ran chrome in Kiosk mode, but this eliminates the ability to use the browser in it’s normal function and works in full screen mode only. The only way to leave chrome kiosk is to use alt+F4, and you can not access the tabs or the url bar while in Kiosk mode.
As you can see, I am up against a wall, and any ideas you have that can help me to achieve my goal would be greatly appreciated.
In my honest opinion, you are doing too much. This is a classroom management issue, not a technology issue. If some students are repetitively academically dishonest while using technology, suspend their technology privileges, let them take a paper test instead.

RE: Resizing windows server 2008
I’m new here, my answers will be simple until I learn more stuff about FOG…
Are you just trying to back up your server, or are you processing several servers at once in order to put them into production?
Why not use Windows Server Backup? It works great. You can choose the “Backup once…” option. And, this utility was designed to do complete and total backups of Windows Server. You can then use this to restore to any other windows server running the same version - regardless of hardware.
FOG was not intended for this use.
Others might have a better answer…

RE: FOG PXE Boot Menu Configuration svn3077
Take out the apostrophes ? That’d be what I’d do. Others may have another solution.

RE: Web GUI, Fog login problem
You can change the socket timeout, but it is still going to eat performance with more users. Like I said before, it’s easy to cause a DoS by requesting that Ajax call repeatedly. This could also happen if you have three people on the website at the same time. Any time a user visits the login or views other pages that leverage fetchURL() like the configuration settings page, there is going to be a server freeze.
Considering that the only usage of fetchURL is for getting latest version or server count data, that could be handled outside of the web server. I’ll even write a service script to help with this.
On a serious note, how likely is a DoS to happen from within your own network? Nobody is going to build a FOG server inside a de-militarized zone, with a public IP address…
FOG is for internal use.
-
RE: Can't login to management after saving FOG settings
I’m going to assume you’ve tried logging in from a different computer, a different browser?
-
RE: Web GUI, Fog login problem
Perhaps we can be given the option to change the timeout length?
Is there a PHP edit we can do to change it? Maybe the FOG web GUI can pull this value from a file, instead of it being hard-coded into the PHP ?

RE: Nodes, Groups and Mirroring, oh my!
I have an svn3077 Fog server with three HDD setup. 1=OS+Fog, 2=PublishedImages, 3=Sandbox&WorkImages
2 and 3 are on their own separate HDD.
2 is Storage Node “DefaultMember”, Master, attached to storage group “Default” with image path “/images”
3 is Storage Node “other”, not master, attached to storage group “Other” with image path “/other”I have several other Fog servers, each on their own subnet; each with their own PXE, DHCP etc, to be set up identically.
I want to keep a live mirror of the master server’s 2=PublishedImages and the associated image file definitions on all the other servers.
I’m not sure Fog can do this or how to do it if it can. According to a thread from August 2014 my best bet is to cron or manually rsync, then manually alter the image definitions on each server.
Am I wrong? Can Fog do what I want?
Hyper-V replication ?
That’d be a live mirror, but it’d be in the off state till the main server became unresponsive. Others may have better solutions, but that’s my solution. My FOG server is in Hyper-V and is replicating to another server in case things go south… I’m pretty big on safety and fault tolerance.
