RE: 501 error when trying to download FOG client
@wrinks You can safely ignore this warning on
get_class()
.So… I tried just to run the client installer on my windows 10 vm and got an ‘Unable to install CA certificate’ error.
Which values did you set when running the installer. Note that web address is set to
fogserver
as default and that will most likely not resolve to a proper IP address in your network. So make sure you put in you FOG server IP…Would the stickied Tutorial in the thread “How to Setup Ubuntu Server/FOG 1.2.0/Create Univeral Windows 7 Image using Sysprep - Step-by-Step” be a useful guide for me to use as reference for this process?
OMG - we really need people to help us update the docs! FOG 1.2.0 is years old and I think this tutorial should not be used anymore. I just unpinned it!

RE: Connecting FOG to Virtual Machine
@agray This seems strange! What host OS do you have VirtualBox installed on? I am using VirtualBox on Debian Linux since years working great for PXE booting VMs with FOG.
I’ve had a look at the PCAP file as well. To me it looks like the following is happening. As seen in the picture of the initial post the “Intel UNDI PXE stack” comes up and requests an IP and PXE infos from the DHCP, gets and answer, loads
undionly.kpxe
via TFTP (note here that we only see the initial read requests as the rest is on random high ports and probably not seen by the filter used to strip down the PCAP!) and then iPXE itself goes for another round of DHCP (seen in the DHCP discover packets as iPXE sends DHCP option 175).Now DHCP server responds but the client/iPXE keeps sending out DHCP discover packets. I guess that iPXE is somehow not able to receive those answers. Can you please hit
s
as suggested to get to the iPXE shell after DHCP failed and run the commandifstat
. Take a picture and post here. Now you can try to use a different network interface card in your VirtualBox settings. Try out different Adapter Type settings. As well you can try using other iPXE binaries. On your FOG server edit
/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf
(might be a bit different depending on the Linux OS you have) and changeundionly.kpxe
toipxe.pxe
for example. Restart dhcp service (systemctl restart isc-dhcp-server
or similar) and see if that makes a difference. -
RE: Storage Nodes Not Showing Up
In a remote session we figured out that the database schema version was kind of oddly set. Still not sure why that was. Fixed that and applied the last couple of schema changes. That fixed a couple of odd issues including the Storage Node setting changes that can be done now again.

RE: Storage Nodes Not Showing Up
@Joe-Gill In the other topic I suggested you run the database maintenance stuff. Did you do that yet?

RE: Problem to boot with PXE
@idiart33 I suggest you open a new topic if you have new issues/problems! Please post a picture of the error so we know what exactly has happened. We can’t help you otherwise.

RE: TFTP won't start at the installation
@Onirix Seems like I have missed the important bits last time. From the messages you posted I think you have disabled IPv6 in Debian completely. While this is totally fine if you don’t want to have it enabled it’s not standard and therefore we have not run into it with our tests yet.
Yes adding
-4
to theTFTP_OPTIONS
should fix this - see here. But as soon as you re-run the installer it will generate a new/etc/default/tftpd-hpa
for you and overwrite your change.Note that the default file the installer generates looks like this:
# FOG Modified version TFTP_USERNAME="root" TFTP_DIRECTORY="/tftpboot" TFTP_ADDRESS=":69" TFTP_OPTIONS="-s"
So if you want to keep IPv6 disabled I would suggest you run the installer like this:
./installfog.sh -X
- this way it should still go ahead even if it fails to start TFTP in the first place. Then when the installer is finished you can modify/etc/default/tftpd-hpa
, manually start TFTP and go ahead. -
RE: Change Hostname Early / Client Hostname Changer
@willian I am not familiar with sysprep but @george1421 might know if this should work.

RE: Windows 10 Image Deployment Issue - Exit to command prompt? - Info
@chavenor You seem to have scheduled a debug deploy task. Go to the FOG web UI -> task view (forth icon from the right in the top menu) and see what type of task it tells you.
Now you can either cancel the task and schedule a new one or you can just boot your machine and when you get to the shell type
fog
and hit ENTER to start the task in debug mode - which is you need to step through manually. -
RE: Dual Port NIC Config
@explosivo98 Just for the records. FOG can be installed with a normal DHCP server (installer asks you about that). That way you don’t need to worry about setting up and configuring dnsmasq manually. While dnsmasq is nice in environments where you have a DHCP server that cannot be modified to add PXE boot information, it’s really not as powerful as standard Linux DHCP server (ISC DHCPd) is! If there is no real need to use dnsmasq I wouldn’t go that route.

RE: GPT Partition Tables Error
@Bullet As of now FOG was never made to move partitions on the disk to make those fit on a smaller disk. On the other hand shrinking the (last) partition has worked for a very long time and has not changed much in the last months.
Taking a quick look at he figures: Partition sda5 starts a sector 961665570 and is 38549504 sectors in size. Add those two and multiply by 512 KB sector size and you get 477 GB of minimum disk size. So my first assumption the image might just be to big because of unmovable partition start locations was wrong.
Well then let’s try something else. Please schedule another deploy task but this time as debug. Boot up the client and hit ENTER twice to get to the shell. Now run the command
fog
to start the deploy and step through it. After you hit the same error you will be thrown back to the shell. Now manually run the following command to see exactly what’s going wrong:sgdisk -gl /images/650G4V2/d1.mbr /dev/sda
Take a picture of the error and post here.
As well, please upload
d1.mbr
from your image directory to a file share and post a link here. Without that I probably won’t be able to replicate the issue. -
RE: GPT Partition Tables Error
@Bullet said in GPT Partition Tables Error:
This was to get the new 1903 update uploaded for this series.
I guess the partition layout has changed and is now causing the issue. Please post the contents of the files as requested.

RE: GPT Partition Tables Error
@Bullet What size is the SSD in the HP 650 G4? As well please post the contents of the text files
d1.partitions
,d1.minimum.partitions
andd1.fixed_size_partitions
you find in/images/650G4V2
on your FOG server. Was working fine up until Thursday afternoon last week.
That’s interesting. Did you update the FOG server or re-upload the image? You can run
ls -al /images/650G4V2
to see the date of the image files. What time were they created? -
RE: Unable to boot into the PXE.
@0juke As well what text messages do you see on screen when it’s booting. Anything saying that it didn’t get PXE boot information? If answering George’s question doesn’t get you anywhere (it should!), then you might take a video of the client booting, upload that and post a link here.

RE: Problem to boot with PXE
@idiart33 The config you posted seems complete now!
The only one file to edit is /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf right ?
Why do you think this is the only file you need to change? There are many different places where you need to manually do the IP change. See here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Change_FOG_Server_IP_Address
-
RE: Problem to boot with PXE
@idiart33 Two things that come to mind reading this:
- You have a commented line with the 192.168.51.x suchet. My guess is that you were using those addresses when you first installed FOG. Did you change the IP at some Pointe??
- Did you post your full config file? Just wondering because this on is missing one closing curly bracket. Possibly when you made the config changes and tried to restart the DHCP service it might fail because IT cannot properly read your sonnig?!
-
RE: Connecting FOG to Virtual Machine
@agray What exactly do you mean by “Domain”? As in Windows Domain? This has nothing to do with PXE boot. Or as in network domain like VLAN or subnet? That might play a hole.
I think the best would be you capture the network traffic on your host machine using wireshark, save as PCAP file, upload to a file share and post a download link here.
