I am not at my PC right now but as soon as I get home I will post up my .xml file. I am using single partition and it is working fine. I would sugggest for now to slim down the .xml file to the bare minimums and start from there. If that works then start adding back options until you find the offending option.

RE: Ubuntu Desktop Blocking Ports?
You shouldn’t have a problem loading the stock version of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with FOG. Unless you specify to turn on a firewall of sorts in the setup of Linux it will just install and you will then , from terminal, install fog and away you go.

RE: Uploading and Deploying Images.
Ahh I think I have it, What are you choosing for the image process. When making an image it will ask you for Single Partition or Multiple Partition. If you are using an OEM machine most times they have either hidden or recovery partitions, this need to be address by choosing Multiple Partition Single Disk. Give that a try and let me know what happens.
It almost sounds like it is only grabbing your boot partition.

RE: Uploading and Deploying Images.
The only thing I can think of is when I used fog as a username to my Ubuntu box before loading the fog server. Once I reloaded and didn’t use fog as a username it was fine. The fog installer should handle all the permissions for you, once I get near my fog server I will post the permissions I have on my nodes.

RE: Uploading and Deploying Images.
It will restart from what I have read, which would leave you with nothing most of the time. I would try this, Start the upload then go to the folder holding the images eg. /images/dev/ this will have a macaddress.file in it that will be the image as it is uploading. Once done it will transfer it to the /images/named_image_folder/ If it is growing normally in that folder but not being transferred to the named folder then there could be a few things wrong. Maybe permissions, not really sure. I ran into that once when building mine but I reloaded FOG and it never resurfaced.

Are you sure that the image is fully uploading and not stopping at 99%? I have seen people talking about this kind of issue before on here.

Windows 7 OEM Guide
I have just finished working up a Windows 7 OEM image that works seamlessly on 4 different models of HP. I was just wondering how many people would be interested in me writing up a guide on how to do this with auto activation so that they can upload to FOG.
I have figured out how to inject drivers, install HP only software that is needed for all hardware to work (Snap-ins). I have also gotten it to skip past all the machine naming and network setup. I would be willing to put it all down with pics and maybe video if anyone is interested. I tried finding a complete guide for this but was unable to find one on here and had to piece together parts from other guides to get mine to work flawlessly.

RE: Windows 7 OEM & FogClient
Also not to confuse you , when loading in the VM enviro, it will say not activated. This is because the SLIP doesnt match the HP OEM DVD.
But once deployed the machines are auto activated.

RE: Windows 7 OEM & FogClient
I just use the OEM DVD that came with my HPs, you can order them also. They are basic Windows 7 64bit DVDs. These have no HP software loaded on them. Im pretty sure if you call them they will send them to you.
For instance my 2760Ps came with 5 discs. Two DVDs were Windows 7 64 and 32 bit, and the others were recovery discs. The Windows discs are just that, Windows. They also have the OEM built in already.

RE: Windows 7 OEM & FogClient
I am doing the same thing and here is how I am handling it without issues. (Keep in mind I am still working through HP software issues) Be sure to register the VM in FOG before starting all this.
-
I load Windows 7 in a virtual environment. This can be Virtual Box or others but I personally use VMWare Workstation so I can turn it into a VHD to inject drivers into seemlessly.
-
Once at the Computer naming screen hit CTRL-Shift-F3. This will push you into Audit mode. Don’t change the settings to the Audit mode box as of yet, just close it with the X and start your loading.
-
From there install all updates and software as needed. You can restart as much as needed it will push you back into Audit mode every time. It will continue to pop up the Audit mode box on auto login.
-
Once all loading is done take a snapshot of the virtual machine.
-
After snapshot change options on Audit mode box to OOBE and check generalize. Set to Shutdown and click OK.
-
Set FOG to upload an image from this virtual machine. and turn VM back on and let it upload the image.
-
Push the image back down to the clients as needed.
There are other steps such as driver injection and some of my software must have ID keys reset before botting up the first time, but that happens to some of us.
Keep in mind this is a very generalized of explaining it. But it should get you going in the right direction.
