@Sebastian-Roth I think the switch is the problem maker. It’s a low-end product, and I got similar issue when I used Ghost in the past. With Ghost multicast, if not all PCs got multicast packets successfully, these PCs would ask for a retry and slowed down the entire process. I wonder if fog uses similar method.
I cannot switch to 1.4 or later just because of the Linux kernel issue in another thread…

@Sebastian-Roth I tried CentOS 6 & 7, both have the issue. So Ubuntu is the only survivor. I’m still finghting with the Ubuntu kernel compile process. It’s not same as general process, and I always got error in the middle. Not sure the reason yet…

Multicast is not quiet stable in my environment, poor switch performance, so I wanted to try unicast. It seems the multicast is still a better choice, although the time is so varibale, from 5 minutes to 50 minutes.
BTW, I can not find FOG_QUEUESIZE in 1.3.0, and the default FOG_CHECKIN_TIMEOUT is 600, but some nodes waited more than 12 minutes.

What is "check in"?
When I tried to deploy 40 PCs with same image, most PCs would continuously show a message like “Attempting to check in. There are open slots, but xx before me on this node (In line for xx:xx)”. It looks like a queue. How can I increase the queue length and specify the timeout?

I understand your concern. Actually I don’t care which version to use, 4.4 or 4.11 are both fine for me. I wonder if something was missed or disabled in the kernel configuration, which caused this reboot issue. Now 3.17.3 is not able to work with fog 1.4.0, so that’s why I wanted to compile my own kernel.
Any way I will try acpi and combination first.

The reboot is the only issue I got. I tried all other kernels, the reg/clone worked fine, but at the last step - reboot, it just hung there forever. Ubuntu 16 have no reboot issue which kernel is 4.4.0.
The CPU is Intel Celeron CPU N2820. I’m not sure what info I shall provide, please just tell me.

Linux kernel
Most official kernels shipped with fog could not reboot in my PCs. The only working version is 3.17.3, but has a kind of USB error. So I want to build the kernel by myself. Is there any thing need to aware? I think all modules shall be compiled into bzImage, right? Anything else?

@george1421 Yes, this is what I wanted to do. Is it possible to set a default password for it? Issues are happened accidently, I cannot always enable the debug mode. If I can access the engine via ssh, it would be helpful to identify the root cause more efficiently.

I tried a few kernels and confirmed the issue is related to kernel version, kernels older than 3.14 worked in my host.
The exception might be an exception… I could not reproduce it.

Confirmed kernel version issue, I changed kernel to 3.0.1 and it’s fine now.

I cannot change language of management webpage. I set the language in Fog Settings => General settings, and also selected in login page, but the language is still English. I tried all languages.

If the deploy failed, like “checking mounted filesystem(?)” failed, the reboot is ok.

Description
Host didn’t reboot after registeration, capture and deploy. After registration, the host showed “Rebooting system as task is completed” and just hung there, got same result after image capture and deploy. I have to press the power button to shutdown manually.
Is this related to kernal version? Currently it is 4.8.11, and I also tried 4.8.1.
The host has Win7 installed, and didn’t see such issue.
