    • RE: init.xz issue?

@Tom-Elliott Thank you for your input… I waited for quite some time, and the issue persisted.

@StahnAileron @george1421 @Wayne-Workman After not getting further with Fedora 22, I set up the SVN trunk FOG server on the same machine, with Centos 6.7. Outside of correcting a reboot parameter on Centos itself (Optiplex 990 issue), it all works as expected and I am playing with the imaging capture/deploy.

@george1421 Thank you for the Centos suggestion, it has been sometime since I’ve used that but it is coming back to me 🙂

I will most likely try Centos 7 at some point, but I have enough playing to do for now 🙂

Thank you all for your assistance, and thanks for making FOG available!

    • RE: init.xz issue?

@Wayne-Workman Thank you … all settings are as they should be. I followed the Fedora 21 guide in the wiki for the initial setup 🙂

@StahnAileron Interesting … Until your reply, I haven’t found anyone else having this issue, so it still seems like something simple being missed. If it is something to do with the TFTP boot files, I’m not willing to start switching those around without a further understanding of what is happening at the point of the reboot.

Is there a wiki page or document or posting somewhere that explains the steps FOG is making behind-the-scenes? IOW, when the screen shows “init.xz <OK>”, what just happened? What is supposed to happen next?

    • init.xz issue?

      Scenario:

      • Fedora 22
      • FOG 5293
      • undionly.kpxe
      • Hosts: Dell Optiplex 7010, latest BIOS (A20), Legacy boot, AHCI

I am new to FOG, and trying to get this working. The 7010 PXE boots just fine, and shows the FOG menu.

‘Boot from hard disk’ option works as expected.
      ‘Run Memtest86+’ works as expected.
‘Perform full host registration’, ‘Quick registration’, and ‘Client System Information’ options do NOT work.

What happens is that it gets to “init.xz <OK>”, blanks the screen for a moment, and then reboots the computer.

If I add the host via FOG Management, the FOG menu does show the host as registered, but when I create a “capture” task the 7010 goes into an endless loop with “init.xz <OK>” being the last line displayed, followed by a reboot, followed by the “init.xz <OK>” line, reboot, and so on.

A “debug” task has the same result.

I’ve checked the permissions on files, checked configurations, carried out several fresh installs (both Fedora and FOG) for documentation purposes, but I am a FOG newbie, and mostly a linux newbie, so I am at a loss on how to continue troubleshooting this.

I don’t currently have any other manufacturer machines to test as hosts, but an Optiplex 980 gives the same results.

I feel that it is something simple I am overlooking… anyone care to provide me with a “DOH!” moment?

      Thanks!
      Bj
